Born in 1947. Graduated from architecture and city planning course, Graduate School of Technology, TMU in 1975. Research fellow, assistant professor, associate professor in Department of Geography, TMU in 1975-1993. Professor in Center For Urban Studies, TMU in 1993-1999 and in Graduate School of Urban Science, TMU. in 1999-2006. Since 2006, in Graduate school of Urban Environmental Science, TMU. The big fire in Sakata City, northern Japan, made him to start the study of disaster mitigation and recovery from disaster. Recently, He continues the comparative study of disaster recovery process and strategy among Japan Turkey and Taiwan. Chairman of Research Committee of mitigation and relief measures from the next Tokyo Earthquake, Japanese Central Committee of Disaster Management, Chairman of Earthquake Recovery Committee, pre-established before the Tokyo Earthquake by Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and many academic members of various committees for disaster mitigation and recovery.
