Ralph Gakenheimer, Professor of Urban Planning, Department of Urban Studies and Planning, MIT, Chair, International Scientific Committee of CODATU (Collaborative on Urban Transport Improvement in the Developing World). He is an expert in urban planning for developing nations. Educated in both engineering and urban planning, with a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, Gakenheimer has been part of the MIT faculty since 1969. For nearly a decade, he has lived and worked overseas, helping developing countries with strategic planning. Professor Gakenheime is an engaging lecturer and world traveler. His research interests include transportation and metropolitan planning in developing countries; Relation between land use change and mobility in rapidly motorizing cities; Research on technological choices for urban transportation in big cities; And The relation between intentions and achievement in proposals for the Global Environmental Facility.
