Dr. Sung Jick Eum is President and Chief Executive Officer of Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT). He has over 30 years of professional experience in the field of transport research, management and implementation since he received his PhD in Transportation Planning from Northwestern University (USA).
While Dr. Eum served as Assistant Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government from 2002 to 2005, he led the Seoul Public Transport Renovation Project, reforming the entire bus system integrating it with the subway for a new high-quality city public transport system.
Prior to that, Dr. Eum carried out various transport related SOC projects in KRIHS (Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements) for 15 years. Also he worked for 10 years as a professional journalist for Transport and Urban Planning at JoongAng Daily, one of the major newspapers in Korea.
Dr. Eum is also the Vice-President of UITP (International Association of Public Transport) since May 2007 and the Chairman of UITP Asia-Pacific Division since March 2007. |
